An Interview With Jason Hunt of JHE’s Log Furniture Place

We sat down for an interview with Jason Hunt, president of JHE’s Log Furniture Place to discuss his background and the history of his company that has been proudly serving its customers for over 15 years.

Why did you decide to start your own business, other than to make money?

Jason Hunt: I wanted to go into this business because I believe people should have the opportunity to own real log furniture at a reasonable price, not inflated to robbery prices. We have been making furniture for close to 100 years, so it was easy for us to move into this niche.

Can you tell us a bit about your background, work history and education?

Jason Hunt: I grew up in a factory. I started out by drawing instruction sheets, then moved on later to cutting parts and then actually building the furniture. After that, I moved into the office and started attending shows. When I left for college around 1996 or 1997, I started up the company website. Many of my skills here at the business were all self taught. I taught myself how to design websites and how to market the business in the early days.

Were there any unexpected obstacles or mistakes that came up along the way?

Jason Hunt: One of the biggest mistakes that I made in the beginning was not buying up any or all of the good rustic furniture related website domains before others did.

What is the biggest challenge when it comes to running your own business?

Jason Hunt: The biggest challenge for us is in lying competitors. We still have competitors out there claiming that we copy them, or that their furniture is better than ours when they are building with plywood, as opposed to the real wood we use. Getting people to understand the difference between real furniture and junk furniture made to look good is also a significant challenge.

What is the most rewarding part of running your own company?

Jason Hunt: Receiving feedback from excited customers. I love hearing how excited they are when the furniture is in hand and it completely blows away any expectations that they had.

Jason Hunt has been working with the company for over 15 years, and currently serves as the company president. Those who want to learn more about Mr. Hunt or the furniture that his company builds are welcome to visit online at www.logfurnitureplace.com

Real log furniture? That is cool. I heard that the original log cabin houses actually called for no nails or screws

That is true I think. As for log furniture, they probably need some. I agree, I dislike seeing something made shoddily.
